Friday 12 April 2013

Liz and Dave would like to thank everyone who braved the cold conditions tonight and helped make the opening night a success. We really do mean everyone.........officials, riders, parents, people whose names we dont know yet who helped with judging, bell ringing, gate marshalling, tea making and those that just came along to watch. We couldnt have done it without you.
We could have done with  more riders, but that will change I'm sure as the weather gets better and the evenings get longer.

We hope to see you all again next week......

ONE DAY TO GO!!!!!!!

Everything sorted but the weather. Hopefully it will be dry. We will make a decision at 5pm and post on Facebook and here if it looks like being a wet evening. We will be there, regardless so if you are local come anyway to register and have a look at the facility.

Some things you need to be aware of, particularly if you are new to outdoor track racing.

Bring a chair or something to sit on between races. We have none available outside.

Bring a tracksuit, big jacket, woolly hat, sleeping bag or whatever else you think will keep you warm.

It is a windy exposed place and you will get cold, particularly between races.

A flask might be a good idea, but we hope to have tea and coffee for sale.

The track is tarmac. It is very smooth and very fast, and will be ok for light tyres or tubulars. No need to worry about potholes!!!!

Please take care on the stony areas associated with the bmx track, and try and avoid the areas outside the track that are awaiting landscaping. We dont want debris bringing through onto the track off your tyres or shoes.

Knowsley Track League Riders Instructions

1.      Respect other riders at all times. Safe riding at all times is required, which starts with ensuring that your bike is in race worthy condition.

2.      Respect the race officials. The Commissaire’s/Judge’s decision is final.

3.      Your bike and race clothing must be clean and appropriate for track racing. Any scruffy individuals and untidy bikes will be refused access to the track centre.

4.      Helmet to be worn at all times between the track inner and outer fences whether racing or warming up.

5.      The tarmac safety zone will be regarded as part of the track and will not be available for warming up or down once the racing starts.

6.      Access to the track is via the gate adjacent to the hub building. This will be controlled by a race official. Take care whilst crossing the track.

7.      Whilst not racing, riders can stay in the tarmac surfaced D area behind the inner perimeter fence at the north end of the track, or on the perimeter pathway outside the fence. The BMX track is out of bounds during track racing, except for race officials.

8.      Races will be started as at Manchester. Riders will line up on the inner perimeter fence adjacent to the D, and roll forward when called by the starter, joining the track in the home straight and approaching the start line in a compact bunch at rolling pace. The starter will start the race if he/she is happy with the formation otherwise a neutralised lap at rolling pace will be done and a second attempt made to start the race. If the second attempt is not successful the race will be abandoned. Anyone jumping the start will be disqualified.

9.      After completing a race riders will complete a warming down half lap and leave the track at the end of the back straight in order to return to the D.

10.  Warm up will be conducted as at Manchester above the blue line. Join the track from the inside, not off the outer perimeter fence and move up either to the blue or above it as soon as possible. The warm up line shall be single file, changing on the half or full lap. Don’t ride around the bottom of the track two or three abreast gassing, if you want to do that stay on the tarmac safety zone. Any rider not complying with these instructions will be asked to leave the track.

11.  Groups will be allocated by the Chief Commissaire. Riders will be allowed to ride in their group of choice but once the choice is made then the rider must remain in that group until at least the remainder of the meeting, unless the Chief Commissaire decides otherwise.

12.  There is changing accommodation is in the main leisure centre, with access by swipe card.  Swipe card application forms will be available but it will take a week or two to get this system set up.  A limited amount of changing will be possible in the Hub building. It is an outdoor league, so a certain amount of removing/putting back clothing is inevitable, but riders will be expected to do this discreetly and with respect for those around them.

13.  There is no seating at present in the D or outside the track. At some point we hope to be able to provide some, but initially riders and helpers should bring their own if desired.

14.  Car parking is adjacent to the main sports centre, and access to the track and Hub building is via the gate behind the main building and down the track perimeter footpath. No vehicular access is possible to the track side
